The Hostatostraße is next to the Bolongarostraße and Emmerich-Josef-Straße one of the three east-west main axes in Frankfurt-Hoechst .

location

Hostatostraße runs between Königsteiner Straße and Dalbergplatz in the east and Leunastraße in the west Höchsts as a wide, single-lane one-way street, with traffic going east-west. On the Höchst city map from 1898, the street was still named Kaiserstraße ; In the course of the incorporation of Höchsts to Frankfurt in 1928, it was renamed after the legendary founder of Höchst, the knight Hostato .

building

Hostatostraße is divided into two main areas. Between Dalbergplatz and Antoniterstraße, it is a shopping and business street, in which ornate Wilhelminian style buildings alternate with modern functional buildings from the period after the Second World War. In addition to a few bank branches, the commercial operations are predominantly retail stores. Administration rooms, practices and apartments are located on the upper floors of the houses. On the southern side of Hostatostraße between Justinuskirchstraße and Antoniterstraße is the building of the Höchster Post, the former Post Office 80, which mainly dates from the early days. Diagonally opposite on the north side of the street, Hostatostraße is dominated by the massive building of the neo-Romanesque St. Joseph's Church from 1909.

Between Antoniterstraße and Leunastraße, residential buildings from the Wilhelminian era in different structural states determine the image of Hostatostraße. This section was only created at the beginning of the 20th century as part of the Höchst Westend , a quarter for senior employees of Hoechst AG . With the exception of a few doctors' offices and a shop for fishing supplies and a hairdresser, there is no longer any business here.

Development of the Hostatostraße

Dalbergplatz was converted into a roundabout in autumn 2006 and autumn 2007. In this context, the City of Frankfurt has plans to calm down the traffic and divert the flow of traffic through the Dalbergstrasse / Adolf-Haeuser-Strasse axis, which runs parallel to the north, along the Höchst train station, as part of the urban development planning for Höchst on Hostatostrasse . The business people based in Hostatostraße therefore fear a drop in sales due to the lack of through traffic. At the end of July 2008 a 30 km / h zone was set up in the entire Hostatostraße.
