Ibn Zaidun
Abu l-Walid Ahmad ibn Zaidun al-Machzumi ( Arabic أبو الوليد أحمد بن زيدون المخزومي, DMG Abū l-Walīd Aḥmad b. Zaidūn al-Maḫzūmī ; * 1003 in Cordoba ; † 1071 ), short Ibn Zaidun (ابن زيدون), was an Arab poet in al-Andalus .
Life
Ibn Zaidun came from a family that traced their origins back to the Quraish of Mecca . He gained fame as a poet among the Jahwarids in Cordoba. Due to the unhappy love for the Umayyad princess Wallada , he came into conflict with the vizier Ibn Abdus and was imprisoned. The love poems from prison achieved great fame, even if the princess chose Ibn Zaidun's competitor.
After the flight from Cordoba, return and new disgrace, he was called to Seville by the Abbadid al-Mutamid and appointed vizier. With his connections to Cordoba he is said to have supported the subjugation of the city by the Abbadids. However, he could not find peace at court either, as after an intrigue by Ibn Ammar of al-Mutamid he was again sent into exile, where he also died.
