This was followed by the tax separation between Au and Berg in 1629. In 1811 the political municipality of Imsterberg was established. At that time the small village was under Bavarian occupation.
Towards the end of World War II , advancing American tanks shot at the place when German soldiers threw fire at them. The tanks destroyed almost all of the houses. Most of them were rebuilt after the war.

Tourism is only of minor importance in the place, whereby the accommodation establishments in Imsterberg benefit from the central location of the place in the Inn valley. The approx. 110 guest beds available in around 12 accommodation providers ensured around 14,000 overnight stays in 2019. A popular destination is the Imsterberger Venet Alm on the eastern foothills of the Venetberg at 1,908 m above sea level.
traffic
The municipality is connected to the railway network with the Imsterberg stop of the Arlbergbahn (located in Imsterau ). The stop was extensively modernized in 2019 and is now barrier-free. In the course of the renovation, the barrier systems on site on the railway line were also automated. This ended the era of the gatekeepers in the village (the last on the western railway between Vienna and Bregenz).
