Ineke Sluiter (born November 13, 1959 in Amsterdam ) is a Dutch classical philologist ( Graecist ).

Sluiter studied Classical Philology at the Free University of Amsterdam with a degree in 1984 and received his doctorate cum laude there in 1990 ( Ancient Grammar in Context. Contributions to the Study of Ancient Linguistic Thought ). In 1994/1995 she was at the Harvard Center for Hellenic Studies in Washington DC and in 1996/1997 at the Institute for Advanced Study and then Associate Professor at the University of Pennsylvania . Since 1998 she has been Professor of Ancient Greek Language and Literature at the University of Leiden .

Sluiter was visiting scholar and visiting professor in Berlin, Oxford, Cambridge, Harvard, at the University of Pennsylvania (where she helped organize international workshops), in New York, Princeton, Nijmegen and Groningen. From 2000 to 2011 she was scientific director of OIKOS, the Dutch national research organization for classical studies.

Sluiter deals with ancient ideas about language and literature, the influence of language on social issues (upbringing, formation of social identity) and ethical questions in ancient times, also making connections to modern societies. Together with Albert Rijksbaron, she is leading the creation of a new, freely accessible, digital ancient Greek-Dutch dictionary.

In 2010 Sluiter received the Spinoza Prize . In 2003 she became a member of the Royal Netherlands Academy of Sciences , and in 2017 a member of the British Academy . She is a member of the Academia Europaea .
