Irene Suchy

Irene Suchy (* 1960 in Vienna ) is an Austrian musicologist . She works as a freelance journalist and exhibition maker, as well as editor and presenter , primarily for the radio station Ö1 .

Life

As a child, Suchy first learned to play the zither , then the cello . In 1978 she began studying music education with the support of talented scholarships at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna .

In 1982 she passed the teaching examination in music education with excellent success and received the sponsorship award from the Ministry of Science. From 1978 to 1983 she studied German for teaching at the University of Vienna, completing a Magister artium . In 1986 she completed her instrumental studies with the state certificate of teaching qualification for violoncello at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna .

Two study visits to Japan supported her work on a musicological dissertation, from 1987 to 1989 a research stay at the Ochanomizu State Women's University with a grant from the Japanese government, and in summer 1990 with a grant from the Japan Foundation . In 1992 she received her doctorate in philosophy from the University of Vienna with a dissertation on German-speaking musicians in Japan before 1945 with Professors Walter Pass and Friedrich C. Heller. She came to ORF through her studies in Japan . Her first radio broadcast was about the history of western music in Japan.

Irene Suchy has been working for Ö1 since 1990 as a music editor , designer and presenter of programs on music such as pasticcio , art and culture , contemporary history and social politics. As a university lecturer and lecturer, she works at the University of Vienna , the St. Pölten University of Applied Sciences , the KFU Graz, the Mozarteum University, Salzburg and at the Institute for Gender Research at the University of Art Graz .

Irene Suchy organized live events in the Radiokulturhaus zu Wien, in the culture forums of the BMEIA and at Austrian concert organizers such as festivals. She curated exhibitions on cultural politics of the 1970s , Otto M. Zykan , and contemporary jewelry. Her exhibition installation together with Clarisse Mayluna's MusicaFemina presents “female music creation across history and genres”.

In 2010 she put with Friedrich Gulda. Ich-Theater presents the first biography of the pianist and composer. Since the death of her partner Otto M. Zykan in 2006, she has been the administrator and self-publisher of his works. The work was premiered at the 2016 Bregenz Festival in the stage version of the 1977 television film State Operetta, which she edited together with the composer Michael Mautner and for which Zykan had written text and music .
