final

Ken Doherty was in the fourth edition in a row in the final: 1993 and 2006 he had won, in 2005 he was defeated by Joe Swail . This time he had survived the first two rounds with white-washs over his opponents and had to give up a few frames only when he won the 6-2 semi-final over Gerard Greene . His final opponent was Fergal O'Brien , who had reached the semi-finals a few times, but was in the final for the first time at this tournament. Although he had started the tournament with a white wash - against old master and crowd favorite Alex Higgins , whose last game on professional level this was -, he won his next two games in the decider.

Doherty took the lead thanks to a 66 break, but O'Brien immediately countered with a 61 break and equalizer. But Doherty then took a 3-1 lead, even if O'Brien didn't let up and cut it to 3-2. Then Doherty was able to continue his run undisturbed: he won six frames in a row and thus won the last edition of the tournament before the final setting with 9: 2.
