Isidor Wallimann

Isidor Wallimann (born October 19, 1944 in Lucerne ) is a Swiss economist and sociologist .

Professional activities

Wallimann studied economics and agriculture at Kansas State University from 1967 to 1971 . In 1978 he received his PhD in Sociology from Syracuse University .

Between 1978 and 1980 he was an assistant professor at the Hobart and William Smith Colleges ( Geneva ). From 1980 until his retirement in 2008 he was professor for sociology, economics and social policy at the University of Applied Sciences Northwestern Switzerland (FHNW) and from 1991 lecturer for sociology and social policy at the University of Freiburg (Switzerland) . Between 1980 and 1984 and between 1987 and 1991 he lectured sociology at the University of Bern . From 1997 to 1999 he was a lecturer at Burckhardthaus ( Gelnhausen , Germany) in economics. Wallimann held further courses in 1985 as a visiting professor in sociology at Kansas State University (Manhattan), in 1993 at Texas Women's University (Denton), the University of North Texas (Denton) and University of Kansas (Lawrence) and in 1999 at Tunghai University (Taiwan) and in 2008 at the Institute for Advanced Studies at Indiana University .

After retiring in 2008, he held a seminar at Kansas State University in 2009 and 2011 under the title “Beyond Industrial Society and Agriculture As We Know It”. Wallimann has been a visiting professor at the Maxwell School, Syracuse University since 2009 .

Isidor Wallimann is a publicist and editor of numerous books, anthologies and articles. For several decades he has been campaigning for solidarity-based economy and ecologically sustainable management. Wallimann is President and co-founder of the Social Economy in Basel (since 1996) and of the Urban Agriculture Netz Basel (since 2010).

Wallimann is a member of Attac's Scientific Advisory Board .
