Jürgen Zulley

Jürgen Zulley (born October 17, 1945 in Neheim-Hüsten ) is a German psychologist and sleep researcher .

Zulley is an adjunct professor of biological psychology at the University of Regensburg , was the head of the Sleep Medicine Center at the University and District Hospital Regensburg and is a book author.

Life

Jürgen Zulley is a graduate engineer (electrical engineering) and graduate psychologist. He grew up in Hagen , Würselen and Rott (Roetgen) , studied electrical engineering in Aachen and psychology in Munich. He received his doctorate in 1979 from the University of Tübingen , habilitated in medical psychology in 1992 at the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich and in 1999 in biological psychology at the University of Regensburg .

He was a long-time employee of Jürgen Aschoff at the Max Planck Institute for Behavioral Physiology and carried out isolation experiments as part of chronobiological studies ( internal clock ). At the Max Planck Institute for Psychiatry , he worked in the field of sleep research and as a psychological psychotherapist . From 1993 until his retirement in 2010, he worked at the University and the Regensburg District Hospital. Since 1973 his field of work has been sleep research , chronobiology and clinical psychology . He carried out the diagnosis and treatment of sleep disorders , is the founder of the sleep school and is involved in public relations.

Zulley was a long-time board member of the German Society for Sleep Research and Sleep Medicine (DGSM), the European Sleep Research Society (ESRS) and the German Academy for Health and Sleep (DAGS).

Services

His studies formed the basis for the synthesis of chronobiology and sleep research . He carried out sleep studies in chronobiological isolation experiments. Connections between sleep and biological rhythms could be discovered and scientifically substantiated. Further daytime sleep examinations proved the biological basis for afternoon nap . In 2001 he founded the Sleep School, a prevention seminar for those affected by sleep disorders. He also dealt with light therapy . Zulley argues that adolescent students would perform better if classes didn't start at nine o'clock.

  • 2002 Bavarian Innovation Prize for the Sleep School from the Bavarian State Ministry

  • 2012 Dream Prize of the German Society for Sleep Research and Sleep Medicine (DGSM)
