Jacek Kleyff

Jacek Kleyff (born August 1, 1947 in Warsaw ) is a Polish singer-songwriter, cabaret artist, actor and painter.

The son of the architect and university lecturer Zygmunt Kleyff received a diploma in 1979 from the Faculty of Architecture of Politechnika Warszawska . He was one of the leading figures in the 1968 student strikes at the Technical University, which attracted the attention of the Polish security authorities. At the same time he founded the cabaret Salon Niezależnych (Independent Salon) with Janusz Weiss and Michał Tarkowski , which became more popular the more it was fought by the authorities. For cabaret he wrote songs like Huśtawki , Papkin , O niespełnionej miłości na terenie magazynu kółka rolniczego , Schulz and Listy do Leonarda Cohena . After its members signed List 59 , the work of Salon Niezależnych was banned in 1976.

In the early 1980s, KLeyff lived as a painter in a village near Lublin. From 1987 Kleyff was a co-founder and author of the Orkiestra Na Zdrowie . Many of his texts were removed by the censorship, the artists were monitored. Kleyff's songs were distributed underground in songbooks and on cassettes. From 1989 he taught at the Bednarska Social School and occasionally produced programs for the Polish Radio.

In 1995 he performed at the Przystanek Woodstock Festival in Czymanowo, where he received the main audience award. 2003–04 he performed the play Kinoteatrzyk Jacka Kleyffa i Michała Tarkowskiego at the Warsaw Studio Theater with the Orkiestra Na Zdrowie . In 2000 he published the autobiographical book Jacek Kleyff , in 2008 he was co-author of the book Salon Niezależnych . In 2003 he was awarded the Officer's Cross of the Order Polonia Restituta .
