Jack Cosgrove

Jack R. Cosgrove (born June 9, 1902 in California , † March 10, 1965 in Hermosa Beach , California) was an American special effects artist .

Life

Cosgrove began his film career in 1934 as a set painter for horror films such as Frankenstein's Bride and Deadly Rays . His matte painting work on early Technicolor films from the mid-1930s was particularly influential . Later he was responsible for photographic and optical special effects. He was nominated for an Oscar for the first time in 1940 for his effects for the monumental film Gone with the Wind . Four more nominations followed by 1946, including for Rebecca and I fight for you . In the 1940s Cosgrove also worked partially as a special effects director and was involved in some B-movies such as Invasion of Mars in the 1950s . In 1956 he was responsible for optical special effects for giants , the last film by James Dean .

Cosgrove made his last film in 1960 and died in 1965 at the age of 62.
