Jake Bugg , real name Jake Edwin Charles Kennedy (born February 28, 1994 in Nottingham ) is a British singer-songwriter .

Career

Jake Bugg comes from the Clifton district of Nottingham . Clifton is known for its social buildings and the ruins of a school that burned down in the 1980s. Jake's parents were interested in music and had both made records when they were young, but failed to gain a foothold as professional musicians. They split when Jake was a kid. As a musician, Jake took his father's last name, Bugg, as a stage name. He started playing guitar at the age of 12, learned a few chords from his uncle, and then played in his cousin's band.

At the age of 17, he performed on the BBC stage at the Glastonbury Festival in 2011 . The BBC radio stations included some of his songs in their programs. In August 2011, Bugg signed a record deal (for four albums) with Mercury Records ( Universal Music ).

2012

In 2012 the Greene King Brewery used his country song for a commercial. On May 22, 2012, he was a guest on the BBC program Later with Jools Holland . His music was used several times during the Olympic Games in London. While preparing for the final of the men's 100-meter race, his single Lightning Bolt was played in homage to gold medalist Usain Bolt . On August 6th, he supported the Stone Roses at their surprise appearance in the Adidas Underground, near the Olympic venues. The audience included not only Olympic champions Jessica Ennis and Bradley Wiggins , but also Jimmy Page , Paul Weller , Example and Bobby Gillespie ( Primal Scream ).

First album

The debut album with his name as the title was also released in October and was at the top of the British album charts from October 21 to 27 . In September 2013 the album was nominated for the Mercury Music Prize . His music shows influences from Oasis , The Beatles , Jimi Hendrix , The Everly Brothers , Bob Dylan , Donovan , Creedence Clearwater Revival and Buddy Holly .

2013

In January 2013, the album Jake Bugg was also released outside the United Kingdom , in the United States it was only released in April. Numerous concerts, television and radio appearances followed around the world, first in Europe, where dates had to be postponed and larger locations looked for during his tour through Germany, then in the USA, later in Japan, Australia and New Zealand. In between there were repeated appearances in his home country England, where he was nominated for the BRIT Awards 2013 for best breakthrough act. In June, Jake Bugg produced a new version of Broken with Rick Rubin , which was released as a single. In summer Bugg appeared at numerous festivals such as the Isle of Wight Festival , the Reading and Leeds Festivals , the Frequency in Austria and the New Pop Festival in Baden-Baden. He played in front of thousands of fans at the Glastonbury Festival , making him the first musician to make it directly from the BBC's youngsters to the main stage at this festival. In September Jake Bugg toured major US cities such as New York, Washington and Chicago. His biggest tour to date began in the British Isles in October. On October 21, he won the Q Award in the Best New Act category .

Second album

During his tours he repeatedly presented new songs that he had composed for his second album. Most of the studio recordings were completed in August, partly with Rick Rubin in Malibu (California) and with the support of drummer Chad Smith from the Red Hot Chili Peppers . The British singer-songwriter Iain Archer , who was responsible for the lyrics and production of many songs on the first album, accompanied Jake Bugg this time too. The second album Shangri La was released on November 15, 2013.
