James W. Abert

James W. Abert (born November 18, 1820 in Mount Holly , New Jersey , † August 10, 1897 ) was an American engineer officer and cartographer . He carried out cartographic studies mainly in the area of ​​today's US state Arkansas and on the Canadian River . Above all, he used the knowledge of the Indians living there to compile a geographical overview of this region. On various expeditions of John Charles Fremont he was a cartographer of the expedition group.
