Jan Wojciech Gmyrek (born March 2, 1951 in Krakow ) is a former Polish handball player who was last coach of the Lower Austrian regional division SG Horn / Waidhofen and is now jointly responsible for the youth work of the Lower Austrian regional division UHC Eggenburg.

In Poland he played for the Stal Mielec club . In 1980 Jan Gmyrek was one of the first Polish players to move to the West. He played for several years in Eggenburg ( Austria ), where he won the title of Austrian top scorer several times. In his time he was one of the best mid-development players in the world and one of the best handball players in Austria. Jan Gmyrek has particularly distinguished himself with tricky allusions to his teammates and his throws. During his playing days, he weighed 79 kilograms and was 1.77 meters tall.

Jan Gmyrek took part with the Polish national team in the 1972 Olympic Games and 1976 Olympic Games ; In 1976 in Montreal , he and his team won the bronze medal. In total, he threw 22 goals at the Olympics.

At the end of November 2008, Gmyrek was chosen as the best mid-level player in the Polish Handball Federation's Golden Team at a gala held by the Polish Handball Federation on the occasion of its 90th anniversary .
