Jane Marie Lynch (born July 14, 1960 in Dolton , Illinois ) is an American author , writer , singer , actress and comedian .

Life

Since 1988 Jane Lynch has worked as an actress in various film productions as a supporting actress. In the course of this work, the roles became more and more extensive. Since her role as Christy Cummings in the film Best in Show in 2000, her roles have become more significant and more prominent in productions. She worked for various television productions, but often only in one or two episodes per television series. She appeared in more than 60 productions and thus became a well-known actress even though she never took on the lead role. She belonged to the theater group " The Second City " and worked there in various plays. In 1998 she played in the self-composed piece "Oh Sister, My Sister". In 2008, she sang the song Hold 4 You in the soundtrack of Another Cinderella Story .

In 2010 she received an Emmy and in 2011 the Golden Globe Award for her leading role in the television series Glee . There she was seen from 2009 to 2015 as the jealous cheerleader trainer Sue Sylvester. In 2019 she received another Emmy for her guest role as scheming comedian Sophie Lennon in the television series The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel .

Lynch was married to the psychologist Lara Embry from 2010 to 2014.
