Jann Jakobs
Jann Jakobs (born December 22, 1953 in Eilsum , East Friesland ) is a German politician . He is a member of the SPD and was Lord Mayor of Potsdam from 2002 to 2018 .
Life and work
From 1971 to June 1975, Jakobs completed training as an educator in the Hanover area . From 1976 to 1978 he studied social work and social pedagogy in Hildesheim , from 1979 to February 1985 at the Free University of Berlin sociology and political science with a degree as a sociologist.
From 1979 to 1988 Jakobs worked as a social worker in Berlin-Spandau . During this time (1985 to 1993) he was still involved in advising public and independent organizations involved in youth and social work. From 1987 to 1993 Jakobs taught at various universities and technical colleges . During this time he was also the planning officer in the youth and sport department in the Berlin-Spandau district office . After the end of his teaching post, Jakobs worked as head of the Potsdam youth welfare office until 1997 .
From 1994 to 1997 he was a member of the German-Russian Youth Council. Since 1997 Jakobs has worked as an alderman for social affairs, youth and health in Potsdam. In 1998 Jakobs became a board member of the Nauen youth development organization for one year .
Jakobs lived in the Russian colony Alexandrowka in Potsdam until 2017 . He is married and has four kids.
politics
In March 1999 Jakobs became mayor and deputy of the other business areas of order and environmental protection in Potsdam. On October 27, 2002, he won the runoff election against Hans-Jürgen Scharfenberg ( PDS ) with 50.14% of the votes in the Potsdam mayor election . He was introduced to the office of Lord Mayor on November 28, 2002 as the successor to Matthias Platzeck. In the mayoral election in 2010, he was re-elected in the runoff election on October 3, 2010 with 60.8% of the vote - again against Scharfenberg.
Jakobs did not run again for the mayoral elections in Potsdam in autumn 2018.
