Jarin Blaschke (born September 28, 1978 in Westminster , California ) is an American cameraman .

Life

As a teenager, Blaschke received his first camera from his mother and soon developed an interest in photography. At 16 he went to New York City, where he attended the School of Visual Arts .

Then he shot his first commercials and short films. He shot many of his short films for graduates from Columbia University , which does not have its own camera department. Some of these short films were shown at film festivals and so Blaschke soon got his first commission for a feature film. In 2008 he filmed Anthony Tarsitano's drama Calling It Quits .

At this time Blaschke also got to know director Robert Eggers , with whom he made the horror film The Witch seven years later . In 2019 they both worked together again for Der Leuchtturm , which Jaschke shot in black and white and the 1.19: 1 aspect ratio , which gave the images an almost square shape.

Jarin Blaschke became a member of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences at the end of June 2020 .
