Jarkko Immonen (born April 19, 1982 in Rantasalmi ) is a Finnish ice hockey player who has been under contract with JYP Jyväskylä in the Liiga since May 2017 .
Career
Immonen began his career at SaPKo Savonlinna in 1997 in the second-rate Finnish I Divisioona , for which he stormed until 2000. With the establishment of Mestis in 2000 he switched to TuTo Turku , which he left in 2001 and signed a contract with Ässät Pori in the SM-liiga . There he stayed for one season and then went to league rivals JYP Jyväskylä . In 2002 he was drafted in the NHL Entry Draft by the Toronto Maple Leafs in the eighth round in a total of 254th place.
The right-handed shooter made his debut in the National Hockey League in 2005 in the jersey of the New York Rangers . However, after he was mainly used in their farm team, the Hartford Wolf Pack from the American Hockey League , he moved back to Finland for the 2007/08 season to JYP Jyväskylä, for whom he has played since then. In 2009 he won the Finnish championship with the team and moved to the continental hockey league for the reigning title holder Ak Bars Kazan in the summer break that followed . With this he also won the Gagarin Cup in the 2009/10 season .
In 2013 he left the club and moved to Torpedo Nizhny Novgorod within the KHL . After two seasons he decided to leave the KHL and moved to the National League A and signed a two-year contract with EV Zug . In his 117 NLA appearances for the EVZ, he scored a total of 40 goals and 40 assists before he returned to Finland in May 2017 and was again signed by JYP.
International
For Finland , Immonen took part in the junior division of the U18 World Junior Championship in 2000 and the U20 World Junior Championship in 2002 . He and his team won the gold medal in the U18 area and the bronze medal in the U20 area. In the senior sector, he was in his country's squad at the 2009 , 2010 and 2011 World Championships and at the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver . At the 2010 Winter Games, he won the bronze medal with Finland. In the senior category, he was particularly impressive at the 2011 World Cup, when he became world champion with Finland. As the top scorer of the world championship, he made a decisive contribution to this title. In addition, he was elected to the All-Star Team during the tournament. He also represented Finland in 2004, 2005, 2008, 2009, 2010 and 2011 on the Euro Hockey Tour .
