Jaroslav Kulhavý
Jaroslav Kulhavý (born January 8, 1985 in Ústí nad Orlicí ) is a Czech mountain bike and cyclocross rider . He became world champion and Olympic champion in the mountain bike discipline cross country and also world champion in the mountain bike marathon .
Athletic career
Jaroslav Kulhavý won the silver medal in junior cross country at the European Mountain Bike Championships in Zurich in 2002 . The next year he won the gold medal in this discipline at the European Championships in Graz and he was also Junior World Champion.
After Kulhavý was elite European cross-country champion in 2010 and 2011, he won the gold medal at the 2011 Cross-Country World Championships in Champéry, Switzerland, ahead of Swiss Nino Schurter and French old master Julien Absalon . In 2012 he was again Olympic champion in cross country ahead of Nino Schurter in London .
In 2013, Kulhavy and team partner Christoph Sauser won the overall ranking of the Cape Epic , the largest mountain bike stage race in the world. He repeated this success in 2015 with Christoph Sauser and in 2018 with Howard Grotts . He also won the title at the 2014 Mountain Bike Marathon World Championships .
Honors
Jaroslav Kulhavý was honored with the induction into the Hall of Fame of the European cycling association Union Européenne de Cyclisme . From 2010 to 2012 and 2016 he was the winner of the annual Král cyklistiky ( cycling king ) survey of the Československý svaz cyklistiky cycling association.
