Career
society
Jean Beausejour started his career in his home country with CD Universidad Católica . After he had not been able to assert himself in the first year, he switched to CD Universidad de Concepción as a loan player . There he rose with good performances to become a regular in midfield. Also on his return to CD Universidad Católica, he received positive attention and scored three goals in 15 games of the Chilean championship. After arousing the interest of other clubs, he went to Europe in 2004 and signed with the Swiss first division club Servette Geneva . After eleven games with a goal he left the club again and went back to South America and signed with the Brazilian club Gremio Porto Alegre ; Ronaldinho and Mário Jardel used to play at this club . He only stayed there for a few months, one reason being the lack of match practice. For this reason he went back to Europe and signed with the Belgian first division club KAA Gent . Things didn't go well for him there either. For this reason he went back to South America at the beginning of 2007 and returned to his homeland. First he was with CD Cobreloa and then with CD O'Higgins in the first Chilean league under contract. At CD O'Higgins he scored 13 goals in 34 games and was instrumental in the club's good results. In 2009 Beausejour moved to the traditional Mexican club Club América and quickly rose to become a regular again. After good performances at the 2010 World Cup, he moved to Europe for the third time at the end of August 2010 when Birmingham City signed him on August 31. Since he was relegated to the second division with the team in the 2010/11 season, he moved back to the first division for Wigan Athletic in the winter of 2012 . There he signed a two and a half year contract. He has been under contract with the Chilean top club Colo Colo Chile since 2014 . After two years there, he moved to the next top Chilean club, CF Universidad de Chile , for 2.27 million euros , where he was also guaranteed a regular place.
National team
For the Chilean national football team , he has played in 105 international matches since 2004 (as of July 6, 2019). In the qualifying game for the 2010 World Cup on June 10, 2009, he scored the 1-0 lead against Bolivia, which was also his first goal in the national team. He scored his second goal at the 2010 World Cup in South Africa in the first group match between Chile and Honduras. He scored 1-0 in the 34th minute, which was also the final score and the Chilean team's first victory at a World Cup since 1962. He made three more appearances in total before the team was eliminated in the round of 16 against Brazil . Beausejour was also there at the 2014 World Cup . Again, he scored a goal in the group stage, against Australia . He was there in only two of four games, as the Chileans were knocked out again against Brazil in the round of 16. At the Copa America , Chile was always represented with Beausejour. Beausejour also took part in the two victories in 2015 and 2016 .
On March 27, 2018, he played his 100th international match in the goalless friendly against Denmark . His last international match so far was in the game for third place at the Copa America 2019 , which was lost 2-1 to Argentina .
