Jean-Charles Tacchella (born September 23, 1925 in Cherbourg ) is a French film journalist, film director and screenwriter .

life and work

Tacchella went to school in Marseille . After the liberation in 1944 he moved to Paris , where he began to write for the magazine L'ecran française (translated: the French canvas). He made the acquaintance of Jean Renoir , Jacques Becker , Alexandre Astruc , the critic André Bazin (1918-1958) and made friends with Erich von Stroheim , Anna Magnani and Vittorio de Sica . With Henri Colpi he founded the monthly Ciné Digest . Together with Bazin, he founded the Objectif 49 cineastes club in 1948 , headed by Jean Cocteau and which organized the first auteur film festival in Biarritz in 1949.

In the early 1950s he increasingly began to work as a screenwriter (including for films by Christian-Jaque and Alexandre Astruc) and as a journalist and author for the emerging television. In 1969 he made his first short film Les derniers hivers . His first feature film, Voyage en grand Tartarie, followed in 1973 . He had his greatest success in 1975 with the film Cousin, Cousine , which was also very successful in the USA and was nominated for several Oscars . Cousin Cousine in 1989 by Joel Schumacher as infidelities neuverfilmt.

In 1990 Tacchella filmed The Little Death of Fine Ladies with Richard Bohringer and Isabella Rossellini based on the erotic memoirs of Marshal von Brantome , a 16th century bon vivant . From 1981 he was a member and 2001 president and since 2003 honorary president of the "Conseil d'Administration de la Cinémathèque française".
