Jean de Montrémy (born May 18, 1913 - December 16, 1998 ) was a French racing car driver , motorsport official and racing car designer.

Career

In the 1950s, Jean de Montrémy worked alongside the brothers Jean and Pierre Hémard in three functions at the small French racing car manufacturer Monopole . de Montrémy came to Monopole in 1944 and was the designer of racing cars, race director and driver.

As a designer he was involved in all Monopole developments from sport to the X89 . He was active as a driver between 1949 and 1955. What was astonishing was the fact that he also held the position of race director in races in which he was a driver.

After a first race start in 1947 in Reims he drove from 1948 endurance race and led from 1949 the stakes in the 24-hour race at Le Mans . After a failure at the Spa-Francorchamps 24-hour race in 1948 , he finished ninth overall at the Paris 12-hour race in the same year (winner Luigi Chinetti in a Ferrari 166 Spyder Corsa ).

In Le Mans, Montrémy was also involved in the greatest successes of Monopolies as a driver. After winning the class in 1949 and winning the 16th Biennial Cup in 1950 , Montrémy and Jean Hémard secured the Index of Performance, which is so important for the small French teams, in 1951 .

He was also able to celebrate this success as race director in Le Mans in 1952 .
