Jeff Beer
Josef "Jeff" Beer (born April 19, 1952 in Mitterteich , Upper Palatinate ) is a German contemporary artist. Beer works as a composer and musician as well as a painter and graphic artist, photographer and visual artist. Sculptures made of iron form a focus of his work.
Life
Jeff (Josef) Beer grew up in a family of craftsmen in the Upper Palatinate. He discovered painting and drawing at an early age, took piano lessons at a young age and completed an apprenticeship as a car mechanic. With his Hammond organ he achieved his first musical successes in Regensburg together with the bassist Bernhard Mrohs , before he began studying composition, percussion and piano at the University of Music in Würzburg . He toured Germany with the rock band Odin and made his first recordings.
After the state examination and master class diploma, he spent a long time in Paris and New York as a scholarship holder . This is where the beginnings of his sculptural activity lie, which he soon cultivated intensively. With his iron sculptures, he gained increasing international attention since the mid-1980s. He also writes music for a wide variety of line-ups, which has won numerous awards, and is a successful graphic artist and photographer. Jeff Beer lives and works in Gumpen , a district of Falkenberg . His daughter Raphaela is known as a musician under the pseudonym " Phela ".
