Jenna Marie Massoli's father was the Italian-American Lawrence Massoli, who was program director at an NBC- affiliated local broadcaster. Her mother Judith Brooke Hunt Massoli was revue dancer and danced for the Folies-Bergère show at the Hotel Tropicana Resort & Casino in Las Vegas. The couple had two children, besides Jenna, their three years older brother Anthony (called Tony). Judith Massoli died of skin cancer on February 20, 1976 when Jenna was less than two years old. The cost of cancer treatment created financial difficulties for the family. Lawrence Massoli quit television to work for the police force (the Las Vegas Sheriff's Department); the family moved several times. During her childhood, Jenna received ballet lessons and often competed in beauty pageants . Her father was at work most of the time and had difficulty developing emotional relationships with his children after the death of his wife. Several of the father's stepmothers and friends came and went, but could not give the children any emotional affection, and sometimes even mistreated them, so that the siblings developed a close relationship with one another and practically grew up on the street. Criminals whom her father made enemies as a police officer threatened the family. Eventually they left Las Vegas temporarily and moved to a ranch in Fromberg , Montana because Lawrence Massoli no longer wanted to expose his children to the dangers of Las Vegas. As city children, Tony and Jenna were marginalized in the village and at school, and in some cases they were also mistreated.

While in Fromberg, October 1990, Massoli was knocked down with stones and raped by a group of four young men after an American football game . In her autobiography she describes this experience in detail and thoughtfully:

“Did I end up in porn because I was raped or because I wanted to succeed? I looked at it from every possible angle and came to the same conclusion over and over again: the rape had nothing to do with it. The event took place too late in my personal development to have been formative. Even if it hadn't happened, I would still have become a porn star. I've spoken to enough therapists to be sure of that. "

- Jenna Jameson : porn star. The Autobiography, 2005, p. 436

Also at the age of 16, she said she was raped again, this time by the uncle (and surrogate father) of her friend Jack, a biker named Preacher, who, however, has denied this. When she came home much later than agreed after this incident, there was an argument with her father who threatened to place her in a foster family. Instead of telling him about the rape, she left her family and moved in with Jack, their first serious relationship. Jack was a tattoo artist , she met him when she spontaneously visited a tattoo shop and had him stab a double heart with the words HEARTBREAKER on her right buttock, her first tattoo, which would later become a kind of trademark. She moved in with him, even though he had not stood by her against his uncle after the rape. She stayed with him in the years that followed, and he became the central figure in her life for four years. By her own admission, she did almost anything to please him, despite frequent arguments and even though he cheated on her with other women.

Early career

Jenna Massoli tried to become a revue dancer, following the example of her mother. Although she was actually a few centimeters too small for that with her height of 1.70 m, she managed to get hired as a dancer at the Revue Vegas World , but stopped after two months because it was too strenuous and too poorly paid . Motivated by her boyfriend Jack, she applied to be a stripper and began performing on strip shows in Las Vegas in 1991, even though she was a minor. In order to be hired, she forged her ID. Initially, she was turned down by the Crazy Horse Too strip club because of her fixed braces. However, after removing them herself with needle-nosed pliers, she got the contract and subsequently made up to $ 2,000 a night before graduating from high school .

As a stripper, she performed under the stage name Jennasis , which she later also used as the company name ( Jennasis Entertainment ). That same year, she began posing nude photos for well-known photographer Suze Randall in Los Angeles (the center of the American porn industry) . As a model, she was looking for a new pseudonym that would match her first name. She searched through the phone book and finally decided on the name Jameson , inspired by the Jameson whiskey. In 1994, at the age of 20, she had already appeared as a nude model under this and other names in many different magazines, including Hustler and Chéri . After meeting drugs through Jack, Massoli used cocaine , LSD, and methamphetamine while still in high school , sometimes with her brother, who was a heroin addict at the time . Her addiction increased over the four years she was with Jack. She barely ate until she eventually got too thin for modeling jobs. In 1994 Jack left her. She weighed less than 35 kilograms when a friend sent her in a wheelchair to see her father and grandmother, where she slowly recovered and overcame her addiction.

Porn film career

Jameson 1995

In 1993 she starred in her first film called Fantasy Women . In the soft sex film (without pornographic scenes) by director Andrew Blake , she had a sex scene with her friend Nikki Tyler .

She starred in her first pornographic film scenes to get revenge on Jack for cheating on her with other women. The scenes were filmed by the porn star Randy West and appeared in the films Up and Cummers 10 and Up and Cummers 11 in 1994 . She quickly made an industry buzz and starred in several other films while still living in Las Vegas. Shortly after her 20th birthday, she had her breasts enlarged for the first time . Later in 1994, after overcoming her drug addiction and regaining weight, she moved to Los Angeles, where she stayed with Nikki Tyler and eventually returned to working as a model. In 1995 she decided - with her father's consent - to begin a career as a porn actress. Her first film after this decision was Silk Stockings . Later that year she got an exclusive contract with the then still small film company Wicked Pictures . According to her account, she told Wicked Pictures founder Steve Orenstein , "Right now my goal is to become the greatest porn star the industry has ever seen." (P. 378)

Through the deal, Jameson made $ 6,000 for each of the eight films she made in the first year. The first larger budget film was Blue Movie in 1995, in which she played a reporter doing research on a porn film location. The film won several AVN awards . In 1996 Jameson received the three most important awards for new actresses in American pornography: the XRCO Best New Starlet Award , the AVN Best New Starlet Award and the Fans of X-Rated Entertainment (Foxe) Video Vixen Award. This made her the first actress to win all three awards. There were also the NightMoves Best New Starlet Award and the European Hot d'Or Meilleure Starlette Américaine in the same category . A large number of other awards followed over the years.

Jameson at the AVN Awards , January 9, 2006

Her first appearances in pornographic films were lesbian scenes with other women. Her first professional straight scene (after the amateur scene with Randy West in Up and Cummers 11 ) was in the 1994 film Cherry Pie . At the beginning of her career, she promised herself that she would never play anal sex or double penetration scenes in front of the camera, and she also avoided sex scenes with black male partners (interracial). Instead, she became particularly known for oral sex scenes .

In 2001, Jameson made $ 60,000 for a day and a half of shooting a single DVD and $ 8,000 for a night of striptease. She tried to limit her work to a maximum of five films per year and to dance a maximum of two weeks per month. Her husband, Jay Grdina, said she can make up to $ 25,000 for an evening as a dancer.

In 2004, Jenna Jameson was portrayed as one of 30 well-known porn stars by American photographer Timothy Greenfield-Sanders in his book XXX: 30 Porn-Star Portraits and his HBO documentary Thinking XXX . Since November 2005 she has been the presenter of the television show Jenna's American Sex Star on Playboy TV , in which potential future porn actresses compete against each other in the form of sex performances for a contract with Jameson's film company. The winners of the first two years were Brea Bennett and Roxy Jezel .

In August 2007, Jameson had her breast implants removed and declared that she no longer wanted to appear in pornographic films. In 2013 she worked as a webcam model.

Autobiography

On August 17, 2004, Jameson published her autobiography, How to Make Love Like a Porn Star: A Cautionary Tale . The book was published in Germany under the title Pornstar . The book was co-authored by Neil Strauss , a journalist for the New York Times and Rolling Stone . The book became a bestseller and was on the New York Times bestseller list for six weeks . The autobiography also won Mainstream's 2004 Adult Media Favorite XRCO Award (co-starring with Seymore Butts ' television series Family Business ).

The book covers the period from Jameson's beginnings in show business to the highs of her career with various award ceremonies and ends with wedding photos of her second marriage, but also does not hide any unpleasant details. Jameson writes about her rapes, her drug problems, her unhappy first marriage and numerous affairs with men and women.

Private life

Jameson and husband Jay Grdina in November 2005

Jameson states that she is bisexual and has slept with a hundred women and thirty men off-film in her life. According to her, the best relationship she has ever had was the lesbian love affair with porn actress Nikki Tyler , which she describes in her autobiography. They lived together again at the beginning of their careers and later before Jameson's second marriage. Known male partners included Marilyn Manson and Tommy Lee .

On December 20, 1996, Jameson married the porn actor and director Brad Armstrong (real name Rodney Hopkins). They stayed together for only ten weeks after the wedding and separated again in March 1997, but continued to appear together in porn films after that. The marriage was divorced in March 2001 after four years of separation.

In the summer of 1998, Jameson first met porn studio owner Jay Grdina , who came from a wealthy rancher family and began making pornographic films after college. Since 1998 he has been Jameson's only male film partner under the name Justin Sterling, with whom she shot sex scenes. They got engaged in December 2000 (before Jameson's divorce from Hopkins) and married on June 22, 2003. They tried unsuccessfully to have children since mid-2004. In the event of pregnancy, Jameson planned to stop appearing in pornographic films. The couple lived in a mansion in Scottsdale , Arizona .

In the 1990s, a picture of her appeared in a booklet for the death metal band Necrophagia ; she met her singer Frank "Killjoy" Pucci in the 1990s and is good friends with her. She herself is a fan of horror and metal , depending on the mood, from Marilyn Manson to speed metal to necrophagia. She also appeared on the DVD “Nightmare Scenarios”, where she shows the mano cornuta and shouts “Necrophagia rules!”.

In August 2006, Jameson's spokesman confirmed reports that Jameson and Grdina had split up. Martial artist Tito Ortiz announced in an interview in November that he and Jameson were in a monogamous relationship and that she was no longer in the porn industry. On December 12, 2006, Jameson filed for divorce from Grdina. On March 16, 2009, Jameson gave birth to two boys from her relationship with Ortiz.

In 2010, Jameson's significant other, Ortiz, was temporarily arrested for domestic violence towards her. In May 2012, she was given a three-year suspended sentence for driving under the influence of alcohol . In April 2013, Jameson had on suspicion of assault at the transsexual porn actress Britney Markham , who had acted as her assistant, standing trial. However, the charges were dropped on April 11, 2013 for lack of evidence.

Entrepreneurial activity

In 2000, Jameson and Jay Grdina founded ClubJenna , a company that offered pornography on the Internet. ClubJenna.com was among the first to offer not only images and videos, but also partnership advice and even stock tips for paying customers and members. The website was already profitable three weeks after it was founded, and shortly afterwards ClubJenna expanded into a multi-layered company in the sex industry, first by looking after the websites of various porn stars and then in 2001 by producing its own porn films.

Jenna Jameson in 2008

In ClubJenna's early productions, Jameson himself starred, either alongside other women or with Grdina, who appeared as Justin Sterling. The first ClubJenna film, Briana Loves Jenna (with Briana Banks ), was co-produced by Vivid and cost $ 280,000 but grossed over $ 1 million in the first year. It was the top-selling and best-selling pornographic film in the United States in 2003 and received two AVN Awards . It was advertised that this film was Jameson's first straight scenes in over two years. According to Grdina, the Jenna Jameson films sold around 100,000 copies on average, while other pornographic films are considered successful with 5,000 copies. On the other hand, ClubJenna took up to twelve days to complete the film scenes, while most of the other films were shot in one day.

As of 2004, other porn actresses starred in the ClubJenna films, including Krystal Steal , Jesse Capelli , McKenzie Lee , Ashton Moore and Sophia Rossi, while Jameson himself retired from the lead roles. ClubJenna's films were distributed and promoted by Vivid Entertainment , the world's largest porn company. The films made a third of Club Jenna's sales but over half of its profits. ClubJenna was run as a family business; Grdina's sister Kris held the position of vice president and took care of merchandising . In 2005 ClubJenna had sales of approximately $ 30 million, an estimated half of that in profit. In 2005 Jameson first directed the film The Provocateur , which appeared as Jenna's Provocateur in September 2006.

The merchandising is mostly focused on Jameson himself. There are a number of sex toys from the well-known sex toy manufacturer Doc Johnson, action figures, and anatomically correct soft plastic casts of Jameson's anatomy. Y-Tell, a subsidiary of ClubJenna, sells Jameson's moans as ringtones , chat services, and games, primarily in Europe and South America. She plays the lead role in her own 3D computer game Virtually Jenna from Thrixxx Technology , the aim of which is to bring a 3D figure of Jamesons to orgasm.

Since May 2003, Jameson's website and films have been advertised on a 48-foot (14.63 m) high billboard in Times Square , New York City . The first promotional image on this billboard showed Jameson wearing only a string and the line “Who Says They Cleaned Up Times Square?” This prominent advertisement and the coverage of it in mainstream media such as the New York Times has been criticized as "obscene" by the anti-pornography organization Morality in Media . In 2006, the New York company Wicked Cow Entertainment tried to establish Jameson as a trademark for drinking vessels, perfume, handbags and shoes, which were to be sold through renowned stores such as Saks Fifth Avenue and Colette boutiques .

ClubJenna expanded its offer. In August 2005 Club Thrust started , an interactive website for Jenna Jameson's gay fans with videos, picture galleries, sex advice and downloads. According to ClubJenna, ClubJenna.com already had a high percentage of gay visitors. In 2006 Club Jenna also maintained more than 150 official pornographic websites.

In August 2005, a group of investors, including Jameson, bought Babes Cabaret , a strip club in Scottsdale , Arizona that would be the first step into live entertainment. However, shortly after the sale attracted attention, Scottsdale City Council issued an ordinance banning nudity in adult entertainment and required four foot barriers between guests and dancers to prevent physical contact. Lap dances , the strippers' main source of income, would have been de facto prevented. Jameson fought against this regulation and helped organize a petition against it. On September 12, 2006, the ordinance was overturned in a referendum.

On June 22, 2006, Playboy Enterprises Inc. announced the acquisition of ClubJenna Inc. Both Jameson and Grdina signed special employment contracts with Playboy. Christine Hefner , CEO at Playboy, announced that she expects film production to grow sharply with around 30 productions in the first year. In addition, new distribution channels are to be used for the films, including on television, as video-on-demand and via mobile phones.

In 2003, Jameson starred in two episodes of the NBC show Mister Sterling as the girlfriend of a political sponsor.

In 2003, Jameson was supposed to work with a number of other well-known pornographic actors to advertise the sports shoe manufacturer Pony International , but was given by Fox News commentator Bill O'Reilly in an editorial entitled "Using Quasi-Prostitutes to Sell Sneakers" (" Using quasi-prostitutes to sell sneakers ”) attacked. Jameson responded with an email to the show:

“I hope Bill understands the difference between a porn star and a hooker. I assume he has done some research on the subject because he requested some of my videos after we finished taping my appearance. I imagine he wanted them for professional reasons. "

“I hope Bill knows the difference between a porn star and a whore. I suppose he did some research on the subject because he requested some of my videos after we recorded my performance. I think he wanted her for professional reasons. "

All of these appearances were minor mainstream appearances, and the main non-pornographic hit was her 2004 autobiography. The book was featured in influential newspapers and agencies including The New York Times and Reuters .
