Jens Rehländer

Jens Rehländer (born December 23, 1962 in Neustadt am Rübenberge ) is a German journalist , author and head of communications at the Volkswagen Foundation .

Life

Rehländer started school in 1969 at the Weimarer Allee elementary school in Hanover . In 1973 there was a change to the Herschelschule high school and there the Abitur in 1982. During this time, Rehländer developed an interest in the history of National Socialism . In 1980 and 1982 he took part with his own work in the German History Schoolchildren's Competition for the Federal President's Prize, when it was dedicated to “everyday life under National Socialism”. He was honored both times and accepted into the German National Academic Foundation for his achievements .

In 1982 Rehländer started basic military service in Lüneburg . He was taken on in a pilot project of the Bundeswehr and served 15 months as a contact person and supervisor for newly drafted recruits.

In the winter semester of 1984 he began studying general rhetoric , modern German literature and modern history at the Eberhard Karls University in Tübingen . Walter Jens , Gert Ueding and Wilfried Barner were among his teachers .

In addition to studying, Rehländer tried to get closer to his professional goal of journalism . In 1985 he traveled to New York to research a social report in the shabby area around Times Square . This was later awarded a prize for young talent and was published in 1986 in a magazine about New York in GEO Special magazine .

After this debut, Rehländer wrote regular national and international reports for GEO and Merian magazine during the semester break. In 1987 he accepted an offer from the GEO editor-in-chief Hermann Schreiber and became a member of the editorial team.

In 2001, GEO editor-in-chief Peter-Matthias Gaede commissioned him with the editorial structure of the Internet magazine GEO.de, which Rehländer was in charge of until 2010. During this time, contributions and projects on the homepage were awarded, among other things, the META (Media Prize) from the Stuttgart Media University (2007), the Environmental Media Prize from the German Environmental Aid (2007), the Axel Springer Prize for young journalists (2007) and a nomination for the Grimme Online Award (2008).

Since 2010, Rehländer has headed the communications department of the Volkswagen Foundation in Hanover , which promotes science and technology in research and teaching. He is also a columnist for science communication and university topics in the politics department of Focus Online and advises foundations on communication strategies. In 2012 the multimedia project sciencemovies of the Volkswagen Foundation received the iF communication design award .

Rehländer is married and lives with two children in Buchholz in the Nordheide .
