Jerzy Marchwiński

Jerzy Marchwiński (born January 6, 1935 in Truskolasy ) is a Polish pianist and music teacher .

Marchwiński had his first music lessons from his father, who was an organist . He then studied piano with Maria Wiłkomirska and chamber music with Kiejstut Bacewicz at the Higher State Music School in Warsaw until 1958 and completed his training with Carlo Zecchi in Salzburg and Taormina.

From 1974 to 1981 he was a member of the Quartet of Polish Radio and Television (Kwartet Mistrów) with Konstanty Andrzej Kulka , Roman Jabłoński and Stefan Kamasa . As a chamber music partner he performed a. a. with Krystyna Szczepańska , Stefania Woytowicz , Edmund Kossowski , Andrzej Bachleda , Andrzej Mroz , Andrzej Hiolski , Teresa Żylis-Gara , Ewa Podleś , Wanda Wilkomirska , Janine Micheau , Régine Crespin , Maureen Forrester , Igor Ozim and Alfredo Campoli . He recorded more than 25 LPs, including all of Karol Szymanowski's works for violin and piano with Kulka .

From 1954 to 2005 Marchwiński was director of teaching and head of the chamber music department at the Higher State Music School in Warsaw (from 1979 Fryderyk Chopin Music Academy, from 2008 Fryderyk Chopin University of Music ). He had held a full professorship since 1984, and the University Senate awarded him the title of honorary professor. In 2015 he initiated the establishment of the National Center for the Education and Promotion of Musical Partnerships (Krajowego Centrum Kształcenia i Promocji Muzycznego Partnerstwa w Graniu Zespołowym) in Bydgoszcz.

Marchwiński was Vice President of the Polish Composers' Association SPAM, board member of the Fryderyk Chopin Society and President of the Association des Artistes Musiciens Polonais en France . In three books ( O partnerstwie w muzyce , 2001; Partnerstwo w muzyce , 2010; Kameralistyka fortepianowa , 2014) he devoted himself to the topic of partnership in music. He was awarded the Commander's Cross of the Order of Polonia Restituta , the Golden Cross of Merit of the Republic of Poland and the Gloria Artis Medal for Cultural Merit .
