Jerzy Montag [ ˈjεʒɨ ] (born February 13, 1947 in Katowice , Poland ) is a German politician ( Bündnis 90 / Die Grünen ).

Life

Jerzy Montag is the son of a Jewish father who immigrated to the Federal Republic of Germany in the 1950s, and a Catholic mother. In an interview, he described himself as "a person who is committed to the values ​​of the Enlightenment and humanism" and continued: "I am not religiously bound and do not belong to any faith."

After graduating from high school in 1966 at the Mollgymnasium in Mannheim , Montag studied sociology , political science and law in Heidelberg , Mannheim and Munich , which he completed in 1973 with the first state examination in law. After completing his legal clerkship, he passed the second state examination in 1975. Montag has been working as an independent lawyer since then. He is a specialist lawyer for criminal law .

The focus of his activities lies in the field of legal policy , European justice and domestic policy as well as the promotion of German-Israeli relations and the fight against right-wing extremism . Montag is a member of the German Lawyers' Association , the Bavarian Defense Lawyers' Initiative, the Republican Lawyers' Association and the Federation of Nature Conservation .

He is a non-professional judge at the Bavarian Constitutional Court.

Jerzy Montag is married and has two children.

Political party

Montag has been a member of the Greens since 1986 and was state chairman of Bündnis 90 / Die Grünen Bayern from 1998 to 2002 .

MP

From 2002 to 2013 he was a member of the German Bundestag and speaker of the Bundestag faction Bündnis 90 / Die Grünen for legal policy. In the 15th electoral term, Monday was Chairman of the Greens in the Visa Investigation Committee and since 2005 has been Chairman of the Legal Affairs Committee and legal policy spokesman for the Bundestag parliamentary group of Bündnis 90 / Die Grünen. He was chairman of the German-Israeli parliamentary group.

Monday was always drawn into the Bundestag via the Bavarian state list. His constituency was Munich-Süd , where he received 13.3 percent of the first votes in the 2009 Bundestag election .

In the 18th German Bundestag (from October 22, 2013), Monday is no longer a member of the Bundestag because he ran in 16th place on the Bavarian state list of Bündnis 90 / Die Grünen and only the first nine Bavarian candidates entered the Bundestag via the state list.

Special investigator

On October 6, 2014, Montag was named as the special investigator of the Parliamentary Control Committee in matters of NSU and the undercover agent " Corelli ". He wrote a comprehensive report, which was classified as secret and about the content of which he is only allowed to provide limited information.
