Jesper Olsen (born March 20, 1961 in Fakse ) is a former Danish football player .

Career

Olsen started his career at Næstved BK . During his time in Næstved he also played for Denmark for the first time . He made his debut in July 1980 against the Soviet Union . After a trial session at Arsenal FC in 1979, he decided to move abroad two years later. Olsen went to Ajax Amsterdam .

While playing for Ajax, he became known for a penalty played. In the game in the Dutch Eredivisie between Ajax and Helmond Sport on December 5, 1982 Johan Cruyff played a penalty briefly, whereupon Olsen played the ball back to the Dutchman, who could then easily defeat the perplexed goalkeeper. In the Netherlands, Olsen was nicknamed the Flea for its size, bounce and maneuverability. He won the Dutch championship twice and the Dutch cup once with Ajax . During his time in the Netherlands he was also called up for the Danish squad for the 1984 European Championship in France , where Denmark was eliminated in the semifinals. Olsen was used twice and received two yellow cards.

In 1984 the Dane moved to England to Manchester United . With Manchester United he won the FA Cup in 1985. During his time in Manchester , he was appointed to the Danish squad for the 1986 World Cup in Mexico and the 1988 European Championship in Germany . At the 1986 World Cup he made it to the round of 16 with the Danes, where they failed against Spain . Olsen played four times and scored three goals. At the European Championship in 1988 he was not used. Here the Danes were eliminated in the group stage.

In 1988 he returned to his home club Næstved BK for two games . He even scored a goal in these two games. In 1989, Olsen moved to Girondins Bordeaux in France . After a season in Bordeaux , he hung on for two more years at SM Caen , where he ended his career due to a serious injury.
