Evgeny Afineevsky ( Russian Евгений Афинеевский , English transliteration : Evgeny Afineevsky ; born October 21, 1972 in Kazan ) is a Soviet-Israeli- American director and producer.

Life

Yevgeny Afineevsky grew up in the Soviet Union and began making documentaries as a teenager. After his first successes in the Soviet Union, he moved to Israel in 1991 at the age of 17 . There he mainly produced operettas like Die Fledermaus and the Gypsy Baron . In London, productions of the Agatha Christie classic Die Mausefalle (1997 to 1999) and Spider's Web (1999) followed. At the same time, Afinejewski got into the television business and produced the film Days of Love for Israeli television. Here he also directed for the first time. He also founded several film production companies including Octava and FilmWorld International.

In 1999 he went to Los Angeles and, together with Menahem Golan, founded the film production company New Cannon as the successor to Cannon Films . A year later, the two parted ways again. His best-known productions include Death Game (2001), Crime and Punishment - You shouldn't kill (2002) and Return from India (2002).

In 2009 the romantic comedy Oy Vey! My Son Is Gay !! (Direction, script and production). In 2014, Divorce: A Journey Through the Kids' Eyes, a documentary film followed. Both films won awards at the New York International Independent Film & Video Festival . Afineevski's greatest success is the 2015 documentary Winter on Fire: Ukraine's Fight for Freedom , which deals with the Euromaidan . This film was nominated for the 2016 Oscar for " Best Documentary " .
