life and career

2005–2008: Successes as a junior and first experiences as a professional

As a junior, Yevgeny Donskoy won several tournaments in 2005 and 2008 and climbed to 20th place in the junior world rankings. His best result at a Grand Slam junior tournament was reaching the quarter-finals at the 2008 French Open .

Donskoi collected his first world ranking points as a professional in August 2007 when he defeated the top 300 player Ivo Klec in the first round at the Challenger tournament in Geneva , for which he received a wildcard . In June 2008 he won an ITF Future Tour tournament in Ukraine for the first time . Thereupon he received a wildcard for the ATP tournament in his hometown Moscow in October 2008 , but had no chance against the top 100 player Viktor Troicki on his ATP debut .

2009–2012: First ATP match win and Challenger title

In 2009 Yevgeny Donskoy could not win a title, but he reached several quarter-finals in Challenger tournaments and thus climbed into the top 400 in the world rankings for the first time. In October 2009, as in the previous year, he received a wildcard for the ATP tournament in Moscow , but was defeated again in two sets against Potito Starace .

In May 2010 Donskoi qualified for the ATP tournament in Belgrade , but lost in the first main round to the later semi-finalist Filip Krajinović . After two Challenger semifinals in July 2010, he participated in the US Open in August 2010 for the first time in the qualification for a Grand Slam tournament, but was eliminated in the first round. At the end of October 2010, Yevgeny Donskoi was able to win a match at ATP level for the first time in Saint Petersburg as a qualifier against Andrei Kuznetsov, who started with a wildcard . In the second round, Donskoi won the first set against the top-seeded top 10 player Michail Juschny , but ultimately lost the match in three sets against the eventual finalist.

Three weeks later he was in Braunschweig as a qualifier for the second time in a Challenger final, which he lost to Lukáš Rosol . In the further course of the year he reached another Challenger semi-final in Segovia , at ATP level there were first round defeats in Stuttgart and Moscow this year . In doubles he was able to surprisingly reach the semi-finals in Moscow together with Teimuras Gabashvili , where they were defeated by the later tournament winners František Čermák and Filip Polášek . The first success of 2012 came Yevgeny Donskoy in February at the Challenger tournament in Quimper , where he was eliminated in the semi-finals against Malek Jaziri . Two weeks later he moved into the final in Meknes , where he won his second Challenger title against Adrian Ungur . He then won Astana , Segovia and Loughborough . Donskoi celebrated his fifth Challenger title in 2012 in Tyumen, Russia, at the Siberia Cup 2012 , where he defeated the Ukrainian Ilja Martschenko 6: 7, 6 , 6: 3, 6: 2.

Davis Cup

2013 Donskoi completed his first games for the Russian Davis Cup team . Against Great Britain he was used in two individual games, of which he was able to win one.
