Jex Thoth is an American doom metal and psychedelic rock band from San Francisco . The band name is derived from the name of the singer Jessica Toth and also her pseudonym , but is also based on the name of the Egyptian deity Thoth .

history

Founded under the name Totem, the band released an EP of the same name in 2007 on the Swedish record label I Hate Records and shortly thereafter renamed itself Jex Thoth. The following year, the self-titled released debut album of the band, previously a song this publication has been on a split - single with the band Pagan Altar decoupled. The Totem EP was re-released every year, as well as another EP called Witness . In 2010 the band completed two European tours in April and October / November and played concerts at the trendy festivals Doom Shall Rise in Göppingen , Roadburn Festival in Tilburg and Hammer of Doom in Würzburg . Another tour through Europe followed in July 2011.

The cover of all releases of the band, with the exception of the Totem EP, was drawn by the Finn Sami Albert Hynninen, who was a member of the band Reverend Bizarre under the pseudonym Albert Witchfinder .

style

The band combines the metallic features of Black Sabbath with the experimental approaches of Amon Düül II . The guitar work was compared to Marillion , the lyrics show some occult features.
