Joachim Rønning

Hans Joachim Rønning (born May 30, 1972 in Sandefjord , Norway ) is a Norwegian film director and commercial producer .

biography

Rønning grew up in Sandefjord, south of Oslo , and spent his youth there. In his earliest childhood he gained his first experiences in the field of film together with his friend and later partner Espen Sandberg . They shot short films for private use with Rønning's father's video camera. After leaving school, Rønning and Sandberg went to a film school in Stockholm from 1992 to 1994 . After graduating from the Stockholm Film School, they did their military service in the Norwegian Army , where they were mainly engaged in shooting military and commercials for the Norwegian Army. In 1995 they founded the film production company Roenberg together . The name Roenberg is made up of their two surnames "Rønning" and "Sandberg". Her Oslo-based company mainly produced music videos and commercials, among others for Airbus , Nintendo , Coca-Cola and Nokia . The duo also directed a ski jumping commercial and shot a Budweiser commercial for the US Super Bowl . Out of private interests, Rønning later founded the organic shop Rått Ass AS in Sandefjord with friends .

As a directing duo, Rønning and Sandberg later tried to make feature films. In 2006 they made the Mexican-American western film Bandidas . In Norway, Rønning and Sandberg received a lot of attention in 2008 for directing the blockbuster film Max Manus , with actor Aksel Hennie in the lead role. Your movie Max Manus was in 2009 for the Norwegian Amanda - Film Award nomination in the category "Best Director". Espen Sandberg and Joachim Rønning made a film in 2012 about Thor Heyerdahl and his Kon-Tiki expedition under the title Kon-Tiki . The film had its world premiere on August 23, 2012 at Den norske filmfestivalen in Haugesund . The Oslo Kon-Tiki Museum presented the development of this new Kon-Tiki film in a separate exhibition. Kon-Tiki was nominated in 2013 for the 85th award of the Oscars in the category " Best Foreign Language Film ". Rønning and Sandberg also co-directed Pirates of the Caribbean: Salazar's Revenge , which was released in May 2017.

Rønning has two daughters with his wife Kristin and they live together in Oslo.
