Shailesh Jogia (born November 13, 1975 in Leicester ), better known by his nickname Joe Jogia , is an English snooker player of Indian descent.
Career
Jogia started his professional career at the age of 18. His first major success was winning the English Open , a Pro-Am tournament, in 1998 with a final win over Stuart Bingham .
His most successful time on the Snooker Main Tour was in the mid-2000s. At the end of 2004, he reached the round of 32 at both the Grand Prix and the British Open . He also made it to 64th place in the world snooker rankings . Even if the following season was not so successful, he was able to improve by two places in the two-year ranking by reaching the main round of the Grand Prix again, his highest position in the world rankings to date. Even without taking part in the final round, he was able to defend 67th place the following year, but then lost so many points due to many first round defeats that he dropped out of the Main Tour in 2008.
In the 2008/09 season Joe Jogia took part in the PIOS tour . In the final sprint of the series, he secured first place in the overall standings with two quarter-finals and victory in the final tournament and was immediately returned to professional status. This season he also played the first maximum break of his career in a Pro-Am tournament .
With several opening wins in the qualifying rounds of the major tournaments - he even reached round 3 at the China Open and the Shanghai Masters - Jogia returned to position 70 in the world rankings in 2010 and thus retained his professional status for another year. At the third tournament of the Pro Challenge Series in his native Leicester, he reached the final of a Pro-Am tournament this season for the second time in his career, which he lost to Robert Milkins this time . The 2010/11 season started again very successfully. At the opening tournament of the newly created Players Tour Championship , a minor ranking series, he reached the quarter-finals. On the Main Tour, after successful qualification rounds at the two Asian tournaments at the World Open 2010, he reached the round of 32 at a world ranking tournament for the third time in his career.
In July 2012, the WPBSA Disciplinary Commission found Jogia guilty of attempted betting manipulation during the 2012 Snooker Shoot-Out and issued a two-year ban.
