Johann Christoph Schröther the Younger (born April 4, 1774 in Sonnewalde , Niederlausitz , † February 1, 1859 ) was a German organ builder in Sonnewalde.

Life

Johann Christoph Schröther was born in 1774 as the son of the carpenter, sexton and organ builder Johann Christoph Schröther the Elder. Ä. (1747–1822) and his wife Maria Sophia Liebe born in Sonnewalde. He learned the organ building trade from his father. In 1806 it was first listed in the Niederlausitz address book as Schröther jun. called, also in 1811. Around 1820 he took over his father's workshop.

Schröther almost only built single-manual organs. He is considered the most important organ builder of his time in Lower Lusatia, alongside Carl Gotthold Claunigk .

Marriages and offspring

Johann Christoph Schröther was married twice. In 1800 he married Johanna Wilhelmine Müller, the daughter of a Sonnewald farmer. From this marriage emerged

  • Friedrich Wilhelm Adolph (* 1808) became a carpenter (and organ builder?) And temporarily helped out in the brothers' workshop
  • Carl Wilhelm Schröther (1811–1885) became an organ builder, took over the workshop in 1859 at the latest and continued to run it with Carl August

Johann Christoph Schröther married Wilhelmine Sophia Augustine Anders, a daughter of the count's clerk in Sonnewalde, in 1819 as a widower. From this marriage arose

  • Carl August Ferdinand Schröther (1820–1898) became an organ builder and continued the workshop with Carl Wilhelm until around 1880.
