Johann Michael von Soeltl
Johann Michael von Soeltl also Söltl (born April 19, 1797 in Neunburg vorm Wald , † April 14, 1888 in Munich ) was a Bavarian historian, archivist and rhetorician.
Soeltl was the son of a day laborer, he studied philosophy and history in Landshut and Göttingen. In 1835 he was employed as a high school professor at the Wilhelmsgymnasium in Munich , but was also a lecturer at Munich University . Soeltl was appointed honorary professor in 1848 , first as associate professor and later as full professor of history at the University of Munich.
In 1855 he became the director of the royal house archives, and in 1868 - after the death of Karl Maria von Aretin - of the secret state archive . On the occasion of his 90th birthday, he was made an honorary citizen of his hometown .
The grave site of Söltl is located in the old southern cemetery in Munich (grave field 42 - row 3 - place 1/2) location .
In addition to historical and popular historical writings, he also published numerous works of romantic poetry and epic as well as regional-geographical works.
