John Albert Knebel

John Albert Knebel (born  October 4, 1936 in Tulsa , Oklahoma ) is a former American politician who was a member of the cabinet of President Gerald Ford as Secretary of Agriculture .

Life

A native of Oklahoma gag made in 1959 at the United States Military Academy in West Point graduating and graduated in 1962 as Master of the Creighton University in Omaha . In 1965 he received his law degree from American University . He gained his first political experience as an assistant to the Republican Congressman J. Ernest Wharton from New York . During President Richard Nixon's second term , he served as general manager of the Small Business Administration .

In the same capacity, John Knebel worked for the Ministry of Agriculture from 1973; in December 1975 he was appointed Undersecretary of State there. On November 4, 1976, President Ford appointed him the new Minister of Agriculture. Knebel succeeded Earl Butz in the cabinet, who had resigned after a scandal over racist remarks. When he took office it was already clear that he would only hold this post for a short time; two days earlier, Gerald Ford had lost the presidential election to Democrat Jimmy Carter . Knebel resigned from the government on January 20, 1977. He subsequently worked again as a lawyer and became President of the American Mining Congress .
