John Balance

John Balance (born February 16, 1962 in Mansfield , Nottinghamshire , † November 13, 2004 ), whose real name was Geoffrey Laurence Rushton , was a member of Psychic TV and also in projects of Current 93 , Death in June , Nurse with Wound , Psychic TV, Thighpaulsandra and Zos Kia involved. He also produced some remixes for the band Nine Inch Nails . In 1983 he founded the band Coil with Peter Christopherson , which created milestones in dark, experimental, electronic sound collages. His first name is also often written Jhon or Jhonn .

John Balance suffered from depression all his life and was also an alcoholic . On November 13, 2004, he died of severe head injuries after falling under the influence of alcohol in the stairwell of the house where he and Christopherson lived. His friend and musical colleague David Tibet from Current 93 organized several fairs in his memory and dedicated the Current 93 album How He Loved the Moon , which contains pieces specially composed for Balance, as well as the Current 93 compilation Judas as Black Moth . In addition, the statement "I would have never buried my friends / And prayed for their souls / In reddening churches." In the title song of the Current 93 album Black Ships Ate the Sky refers to balance.
