John Helliwell
John Anthony Helliwell (born February 15, 1945 in Todmorden , Yorkshire, England) is an English musician ( woodwind instruments , keyboards ). Helliwell became known as a member of the rock band Supertramp . In addition to his involvement as a musician and background singer, he occasionally acted as a presenter or emcee at the band's concerts .
From January 1966 Helliwell played on The Alan Bown Set , replacing Dave Green there. In 1973 he joined Supertramp with bassist Dougie Thomson on his initiative. In 2004 he founded the band Crème Anglaise together with Mark Hart , whom he had known since joining Supertramp in 1985. The first and eponymous album was released in 2005.
In 1987 Helliwell worked on Pink Floyd's album A Momentary Lapse of Reason , but his name was incorrectly given as "Halliwell". Pink Floyd guitarist David Gilmour had previously played on the Supertramp album Brother Where You Bound .
When Helliwell was at times in little demand as a musician during the 1990s, he began studying at the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester. But he broke off this to accompany a Supertramp tour, and he also played on the 1997 Supertramp album Some Things Never Change .
