Without reaching the finals, but at least with reaching the 500-meter semi-final at the World Cup, he ended the major events in 2005. At the second World Cup station of the 2005/06 season, Eley achieved fourth place in the 500-meter sprint distance, after which he was able to do this No more repeating the surprising success and ultimately placed twelfth in the overall World Cup. He also performed well at the 2006 European Championships . Eley he was nominated as one of four British short trackers for the 2006 Winter Olympics in Turin . There he ran the 1000 and 500 meters , over the latter distance he won the B final and thus came fifth.

Also in Heerenveen, Eley placed fifth over 1000 meters. Thanks to his consistently good results, he achieved second place overall in the 500-meter World Cup. The major events in 2007, however, were relatively unsuccessful and he did not participate in the finals. During the 2007/08 World Cup , Eley finally established himself at the top of the world after finishing seventh in the World Cup with another podium over 500 meters.
