Josef Bergauer

Josef Bergauer (born January 26, 1880 in Laa an der Thaya , Lower Austria ; † July 21, 1947 in Vienna ) was an Austrian actor , lecturer and writer .

Life

Bergauer was born into a family of farmers and inns. Due to his talent for music and singing, he became a choirboy at St. Stephan and also learned to play the piano and violin.

Intended for the civil service career, Bergauer worked as a court clerk after graduating from the University of Vienna (Dr. jur.). Following his urge to take the stage, from 1907 (with an interruption due to military service in World War I) he worked as an actor, singer and lecturer on the stage, in adult education centers and later also in the radio . With the exception of the Burgtheater, he played on almost every stage in Vienna. As an excellent interpreter of Nestroy , Raimund and Anzengruber , he rendered services to ancient Austrian poetry.

In addition to his work at Viennese private theaters, Bergauer dealt with Viennese cultural history. The sounding Vienna of 1941 dealt with the houses of famous sound poets, the work In the footsteps of famous people in Vienna , 1948, presents the celebrities of bygone days. Bergauer also wrote Viennese songs for choir and orchestra. He was married to Emilie Erdmann.

He found his final resting place in an honorary grave in the Döblinger Friedhof in Vienna (group 29, number 139).
