Josef Schagerl junior
Josef Schagerl junior (born August 25, 1923 in Peutenburg bei Scheibbs ) is an Austrian sculptor .
life and work
Josef Schagerl junior is the son of the sculptor Josef Schagerl senior (1872–1953) and his wife Rosa. After completing his carpenter apprenticeship from 1938 to 1941, he first worked in his father's studio. In the same year he was called up for military service and returned from captivity in 1946 . He then studied at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna until 1952 , where he graduated with a diploma as an academic sculptor. From 1951 to 1964 Schagerl worked on the reconstruction of historical sights in Vienna , the Gloriette Schönbrunn, the Vienna Hofburg and the Belvedere Palace. In 1962 he designed a tombstone for Gustav Klimt's grave in Hietzing.
As a freelance artist, he designed numerous works in public spaces: he has created many art-in-building projects.
- From 1961 to 1980 he was a member of the artist group Der Kreis and from 1972 to 1977 its president.
- From 1964 to 1973 he was a member of Gruppe 64 Lower Austria and until 1978 of the artist center Schloss Parz in Upper Austria .
- In 1973 he acquired the Gothic St. John's Chapel in Rafing near Pulkau , which was expanded into a cultural center .
- From 1990 to 1996 he was a course instructor for shapes in metal for the Geras Abbey .
- 1991 Workshop in Muscat, Wadi Al Kabirh (Sultanate of Oman).
Schagerl took part in numerous exhibitions at home and abroad.

- 1972 1st competition prize for artistic interior design and sacred objects in the Böhlerwerk parish church, Ybbs in Lower Austria
- 1973 City of Vienna Prize for Fine Arts for Sculpture
- 1976 professional title professor
- 1979 Culture Prize of the State of Lower Austria
- 1984 Silver Medal of Honor of the Federal Capital Vienna
- 2000 Gold Medal for Services to the Federal State of Lower Austria
