Joseph-Theodor Blank

Joseph-Theodor Blank , (born March 19, 1947 in Lüdenscheid ) was a member of the German Bundestag from 1983 to 2002 . He was always elected for the Christian Democratic Union of Germany (CDU) through a direct mandate in the Mettmann I constituency.

Life

Blank grew up in the former Erkrath district in Unterbach and was initially district chairman of the Junge Union in the Mettmann district . When Unterbach was incorporated into Düsseldorf in 1975, he moved to Alt-Erkrath and thus remained in the Mettmann district. There he won the Mettmann I constituency directly for his party for the first time in 1983, succeeding former Federal Defense Minister Gerhard Schröder, and thus moved into the German Bundestag, to which he belonged from the 10th to the end of the 14th legislative period in 2002. Here he did pioneering work in the field of data protection and the non-exclusion of HIV- infected people. Within the CDU he became district chairman in the Mettmann district, district chairman of the Bergisches Land district and chief executive of the local authority association .

After studying law and political science, Blank did his trainee lawyer and assessor exams. This was followed by the doctorate to Dr. jur. and from 1972 to 1975 worked as a research assistant at the Institute for Constitutional Law at the University of Cologne . Blank was a member of the management of the German Association of Towns and Municipalities from 1976 to 1983. After being elected to the German Bundestag in 1983, he worked as an independent lawyer. He also works as an honorary professor for state and constitutional law at the University of Applied Sciences for Public Administration in North Rhine-Westphalia . As President of the German Society for Leisure Time , he campaigned against the general commercialization of society. He was also a member of the North Atlantic Assembly . He is chairman of the association of helpers and sponsors of the technical relief organization in North Rhine-Westphalia eV , Gelsenkirchen.

In 2004 Blank was appointed founding president of the Deutsche Welle Academy by the Broadcasting Council of Deutsche Welle , of which he had previously belonged for many years as deputy chairman. Since 2008, Blank has been a member of the DW Academy Committee as an external consultant.

In 1995 the anti-imperialist cells (AIZ) carried out an explosive attack on his family's house in Erkrath, where he still lives today . The damage to the house was put at 60,000 DM, there were no injuries.

He is nephew of the first defense minister of the Federal Republic of Germany, Theodor Blank and son of the German politician Joseph Blank .
