Joshua Grothe (born October 2, 1987 in Berlin ) is a German actor , stuntman and producer.

Life

Grothe was born in Berlin-Friedrichshain . He grew up with his single father in a forge in the countryside outside of Berlin. He attended a Montessori school near Berlin, where he participated in the theater group in theater performances. At the age of 16 he moved to Berlin and lived there in the Prenzlauer Berg district . After school he completed an FSJ , where he worked with children and the disabled. He then completed his high school diploma in the area of ​​social affairs.

From 2008 to 2009 he received private theater training from the director Joachim Stargard in Berlin. This was followed by acting classes, courses in Meisner technique and speech training in Berlin and at the Larry Moss Studio in Los Angeles . He played his first theater role in 2009 at the Berlin off-theater "Theater Zip" in the Theaterhaus Mitte in Berlin. He played Ferdinando in the comedy Aufbruch zur Sommerfrische by Carlo Goldoni . In 2010 he appeared in the Kammerspiele of the Deutsches Theater in Berlin in a production of Frank Wedekind's play Spring Awakening in a production by "Junge DT". In the production by director Marc Prätsch with amateur actors between 15 and 25 years of age who had been selected from over 300 applicants, Grothe portrayed the model Heidi Klum as a long-legged blonde.

In 2011, Grothe was signed by a Berlin acting agent. Since then, Grothe has also worked as an actor in German-language television productions. In 2013 he played a leading role in the series pilot film Heroes of Everyday Life . From November 2013 to January 2014, he shot the Russian multi-part series with the international distribution title The Old Gun in St. Petersburg and the surrounding area, directed by Kirill Belevich . Along with Thure Riefenstein , Fitz van Thom , Bastian Sierich and Julian Mau, Grothe played the German SS officer Konrad, one of the five German-speaking leading roles in the film.

He also had episode roles in the television series Heiter bis tödlich: Nordisch herb (2012; as wakeboard world champion Henning Freese and business partner of the murdered man), Gute Zeiten, Bad Zeiten (2013) and Christine. Yesterday was perfect! (2013; as party host Stefan, at the side of Diana Amft ).

In January 2016, Grothe was seen in a major supporting role in the ZDF television film Greta's Wedding , a film from the Inga Lindström television series . He played, alongside Alissa Jung in the title role, Henner Hansen, the brother of the bride Greta. In the 21st season of the ARD television series In all friendship , he was seen in a leading role in the episode in October 2018; he played Nathan Friedrich, the father of a 6-year-old son who is accused by his ex-girlfriend of violating his duty of care.

In the 5th season of the ZDF series Dr. Klein (2019), Grothe took on an ongoing role as auditor Chris Brandt and future lover of restaurateur Patrick Keller ( Leander Lichti ). In the 10th season of the ZDF series SOKO Stuttgart (2019), Grothe had one of the main roles in the episode as a suspect, an active roommate in the "right-wing scene" of a killed paramedic. In the opening episode of the 16th season of the ZDF series SOKO Wismar (2019), Grothe took on a leading role in the episode as the successful but criminal Wismar contractor Stefan Malik. In the 9th season of the TV series Familie Dr. Kleist (2020) Grothe took on one of the episode roles as Chimney sweep Armin Voigtländer, who has difficulties accepting his new father role.

In 2008 Grothes started working with the Berlin stunt coordinator Volkhart Buff, through whom he also received his first assignments as a stuntman. As a stuntman he worked a. a. in the films Pandorum (2009; as Hunter Leader for André Hennicke ), times change you (2010), The Ghostwriter (2010; for Ewan McGregor as Ghost), Hanni & Nanni (2010; for Oliver Pocher ), The man who talks about cars jumped (2010; for Robert Stadlober ) and The Three Musketeers (2011; inter alia for Christoph Waltz as Cardinal Richelieu). In 2014 he was engaged as a fight choreographer for the US television series Sense8 (2015). In 2015 he was involved as a stuntman in the US action film Hitman: Agent 47 .

As a stunt coordinator, Grothe also worked for the KIKA television series Verknallt & Crazy .

Grothe lives in Berlin .
