Juanjo Giménez

Juanjo Giménez Peña (born April 18, 1963 in Barcelona ) is a Spanish director and film producer who specializes in short films. In 2016 his film Timecode won the Palme d'Or for Best Short Film at the 69th Cannes International Film Festival in 2016 . The film was also nominated for Best Short Film at the 2017 Academy Awards. Timecode was produced as a study project at the film school in Reus .

Life

Juanjo Giménez was born in Barcelona and still lives there today. Between 1991 and 1994 he studied at the CECC. In 1994 he made his first short film “Time to Close”. He was also a co-founder of the production company Salto de Eje that same year. His second short film, " Especial con luz " from 1995, was shown at several festivals and Radiotelevisión Española acquired the rights to the film. In 1996 Juanjo Giménez directed " Ella esta enfadada ". With “Libre Indirecto” from 1997, also a short film, Giménez won the Canal + Prize at the Montpellier Festival (1997), the prize for the “best short film” at the Carabanchel Festival and the Nuremberg Festival (1998). He received the award for the best screenplay at the Girona Film Festival (1998). Tilt (2003) made his debut in feature films. The film has been shown at film festivals in Girona and Toronto, among others. He made several other short films, including Rodilla (2009), Nitbus (2007), Maximum Penalty (2005) and Indirect Free Kick (1997), all at national and international festivals were awarded. He also co-directed Dodge and Hit in 2010 with Adan Aliaga . Giménez is the founder of the production company Nadir Films .
