Kadirli is a district town and capital of the district of the same name in the Turkish province of Osmaniye .

Kadirli is the largest district in Osmaniye Province and is located in the western part of the province in the Çukurova region . It borders on the provinces of Adana and Kahramanmaraş . Around three quarters of the district's population live in the district town. In addition to Kadirli, the district also includes 60 villages ( Köy , plural Köyler ), in which an average of 519 people live. The five largest villages are: Koçlu (1,008), Kızyusuflu (1,052), Aydınlar (1,235), Karakütük (1,282) and İlbistanlı (1,454).

In Roman antiquity and in Byzantine times the place was called Flavius or Flaviopolis , later it was known as Kars-ı Zulkadriye or Kars for short . This name first appears in the 13th century. Another name was Pazarköy or Kars Pazarı . The current name has been official since 1928.

Attractions

The Alacami on the eastern outskirts on a hill is an early Byzantine church that was converted into a mosque in the 15th century and the oldest building in the city. The apse and outer walls of the basilica , built at the end of the 5th or beginning of the 6th century, have been preserved.

The late Hittite site of Karatepe-Arslantaş is located in the Kadirli district .
