Kai Biermann

Kai Biermann (* 1972 in Berlin ) is a German journalist and author .
Life
Biermann received his diploma in psychology in 1997 at the Humboldt University in Berlin and worked at the same time for the magazine Brigitte . After an internship at the Berliner Zeitung , he worked for the Financial Times Deutschland , the Netzeitung and the Bildblog . He has been employed by Zeit Online since 2007 , initially as a capital correspondent, from 2009 responsible for the Internet , data protection and network policy in the digital sector . Between 2009 and 2011 he was department head for digital, knowledge, studies . He has been a member of the newly established Investigative / Data team since 2014 . He oversees the data blog , which deals with open data , and reports regularly to the NSA committee of inquiry .
In 2009 he wrote an article in Zeit Online about Newspeak of Inner Security , which gave the impetus to set up a blog with Martin Haase and, together with Constanze Kurz , the Neusprechfunk podcast . In 2011 they both received a Grimme Online Award in the Knowledge and Education category for the Neusprechblog . In the same year he was honored with a Grimme Online Award SPECIAL and a LeadAward for his work on the interactive graphic Verräterisches Handy .
