Kalevala Koru is one of the leading jewelry manufacturers in Finland. The jewelery from "Kalevala" has a long tradition. Due to its design and Finnish roots, the jewelry has a high recognition value .

founding

The background to the foundation was a fundraising campaign for a memorial that was supposed to depict the women of the epic “ Kalevala ”. In this fundraising campaign, however, not enough money was collected, so the "Kalevala" women were founded. They began to replicate and sell the historical jewelry in order to finance the monument. In autumn 1937 the company "Kalevala Koru" was founded by the "Kalevala" women of Finland.

The jewelery

The pieces of jewelry are replicas or variations from the Iron Age, the rich Viking Age, the Middle Ages or from previous centuries. They are made exclusively in Finland. A sign that "Kalevala" attaches great importance to the Finnish origin is not only the jewelry itself, but also the award of Kalevala Koru with the "key flag" by the Association of Finnish Labor.

Every single piece of jewelry has its own story. Be it the origin, the place of discovery, the symbolism or the time from which the jewelry originates, there is a suitable story for every collection that is worth telling.

The material

Most of the raw materials used come from Finland itself. During processing, environmental standards are observed so that the air and the surrounding area of the production facility are not polluted.

The gold jewelry is made from a gold alloy of 18 (75% gold content) or 14 carat (58.5%) and the silver jewelry is made from sterling silver (925/000). The bronze jewelry is made from an alloy of copper and tin, although zinc can also be found in some pieces of jewelry. However, nickel is never used in the production of "Kalevala" jewelry. In order to protect the jewelry from oxidation, it is coated with a lacquer and the hooks of the earrings are made of gold-plated silver.

The designers

All jewelry is designed by highly respected designers. The main designer is the goldsmith Kirsti Doukas.

The Company

"Kalevala" is the largest company in its sector in Finland and is ranked 11th among the most respected brands according to the "Markkinointi & Mainonta" magazine. The company building is in Pitäjänmäki in Helsinki. The factory, sales and management are also located there. In 2006 "Kalevala" achieved sales of 20 million euros and employed 210 people. In August 2005, Kalevala Koru Oy bought Finland's other major jewelry manufacturer, Lapponia Jewerly Oy. Both companies operate under one roof in Pitäjänmäki but continue to operate under two different brands with high quality products and reputable names.

Kalevala in Germany

"Kalevala" has also been represented in Germany since 1997. The “Kalevala” jewelery shop in Germany was closed at the end of 2004 and the German “Kalevala” branch was closed at the end of 2005. As a result, “Kalevala” jewelery was only available from 66 jewelers or online in Germany.
