The Kartäuserkantorei Köln is a mixed choir in Cologne with a focus on music from the Baroque , Renaissance and Romantic periods .

Peter Neumann directed the choir for thirty years; During this time, works by Schubert , Mendelssohn , Brahms , Bruckner , Fauré up to Mahler and Schönberg were dedicated . Another focus was the oratorios by Handel , of which the Carthusian Choir performed “ Saul , Jephta , Belshazzar , Solomon , Israel in Egypt , Messiah ” and “ Athalia ”. Under Marek Janowski, the Kantorei participated in the opening of the Cologne Philharmonic in Mahler's 8th Symphony , as well as in a performance of Schönberg's Gurre songs .

Several concert tours led the choir a. a. with Mendelssohn's “ Paulus ” and “ Elias ” to Budapest and Rome, then with masses by Mozart , Schubert , Gounod and Fauré at the Liturgica Festival in Jerusalem .

After Neumann's farewell concert in March 2005 in the Cologne Philharmonic with Mendelssohn's Paulus, Philipp Ahmann took over the musical direction of the Kartäuserkantorei . Under him the choir u. a. set new accents in his repertoire with a cappella music. With the concert in June 2013 in which Mozart's “ Requiem ” and Haydn's “ Missa in angustiis ” were performed, Philipp Ahmann said goodbye as musical director of the Kartäuserkantorei Cologne, because he has since then fully pursued his duties as director of the NDR Choir in Hamburg.

Paul Krämer has been the artistic director of the Kartäuserkantorei since August 2013.
