Katharina Franck (born July 28, 1963 in Düsseldorf ) is a German singer and instrumental musician. She was best known with her band Rainbirds .

Life

Katharina Franck grew up in Portugal because her father worked there as a Thyssen representative. From 1974 to 1977 she lived in São Paulo , Brazil, and began playing the guitar and writing songs in English. Back in Portugal she made her first band, stage and studio experience.

In 1981 she moved to Cologne. First attempts with cut-ups , poems and prose in German followed. When pop course at the University of Music and Theater Hamburg took her first singing lessons. In 1983 she moved to Berlin and initially kept herself afloat with part-time jobs. In 1985 she became a member of the band Les Black Carnations , where she operated under the name Justine Time .

In the spring of 1986 she founded the band Rainbirds , with which she won the Berlin Senate Rock Competition and was then signed to the Mercury record company . The single Blueprint became a European hit in 1988. The band was reformed several times and released a total of six studio albums. The last publication was Yonder in 2014 .

From 1990 to 1994 she was a member of the band Stein (along with FM Einheit von den Einstürzende Neubauten and Ulrike Haage ), with whom she released three albums.

After various guest appearances and a radio play release, Franck's first solo album Hunger was released in 1997 , which she describes as Spoken Popsongs . In 2002 the second solo album, Slow Motion Cinema, was released with further spoken pop songs .

A singer / songwriter album in English was released in 2006 with First Take Second Skin , followed by On the Verge of an Autobiography in 2008.

Between autumn 2009 and autumn 2010 Katharina Franck brought a song retrospective to the stage. Around 30 tracks from all albums, early works, and new, as yet unreleased songs. In the meantime, the collaboration with Reinhardt Repke's Club of Dead Poets began . The result was the album Eine Wunders Melodie - Rainer Maria Rilke set to music . The joint tour across Germany began on September 10, 2010 and ended on January 28, 2012.

Private life

Franck has lived in Neuruppin since 2012 , her partner lives in Neukölln . Your mother lives in Portugal.
