Kavli Prize

The Kavli Prize has been awarded every two years since 2008 and is donated by Fred Kavli (1927–2013).

The award is endowed with one million US dollars each in three research areas ( astrophysics , nanosciences and neurosciences ). If there are several winners in one category, the prize money will be shared. The prize money is provided by The Kavli Foundation , founded by the Norwegian native Fred Kavli. Emigrated to California , USA at a young age , he made his fortune with an aircraft sensor company ( Kavlico ).

The members of the award committee are named by the Norwegian Academy of Sciences and, in addition to their own proposals, consider those from the Chinese Academy of Sciences, the Académie des Sciences , the Max Planck Society , the National Academy of Sciences and the Royal Society . The Norwegian King Harald will present the award during a ceremony.
