Kim Wilson (born January 6, 1951 in Detroit ) is an American blues rock singer and harmonica player , who was best known as a member of the Fabulous Thunderbirds .

Wilson grew up as the son of two radio pop singers in California. As a child he had lessons in guitar and trombone . It was only as a senior in high school that he began to get enthusiastic about the blues . From 1970 he began to play the blues professionally, playing harmonica taught him various blues musicians with whom he played at the time. Musicians he worked with in the 1970s include Eddie Taylor , Charlie Musselwhite , John Lee Hooker , Sonny Rhodes and finally Muddy Waters . Wilson had now moved to Austin , where he met Jimmie Vaughan , with whom he founded the Fabulous Thunderbirds in 1977.

In addition to his work with the T-Birds, Wilson began releasing solo records in the early 1990s. His solo debut Tigerman appeared in 1993 and, in addition to only three own compositions, offered various old blues classics, among others by Tampa Red , Roosevelt Sykes and Lonnie Johnson . Also on the 1994 follow-up album That's Life , only three of their own songs can be heard. In addition to some publications with the Fabulous Thunderbirds and a few other solo albums, Wilson appeared regularly with Bonnie Raitt in the 1990s .
